From Ghostbuster to FDR?
Bill Murray is slated to play Franklin Delano Roosevelt in an upcoming Focus Features film, according to New York magazine’s Vulture blog.
The movie, which will be released in 2012, is based on the British radio play “Hyde Park On the Hudson,” in which a steamy love affair takes place between the former President and his distant cousin.
It’s centered around a weekend in 1939 when King George VI visits FDR’s estate in upstate New York.
The film is being directed by Roger Michell, best known for his work in movies like “Morning Glory” and “Notting Hill.”
The 60-year-old Murray, known for comedic roles like “Caddyshack,” “Groundhog Day” and “What About Bob?,” is no stranger to serious films. He’s played staid roles in “Rushmore” and “Lost in Translation.” But the FDR role would be his most serious role to date.
